  What a pleasant cafe! We found this coffee shop/restaurant to be clean, bright, and staffed with friendly professional employees. The menu is diverse and offers many many delicious options. Service was still quick though, and we were able to place our order and find a table within minutes. We ordered two of the savory and two of the sweet crepes, along with a few of their specialty lattes. The crepes were light and slightly sweet, complimenting the flavors of the ingredients within, from bacon or prosciutto to lemon curd and warm apple. The drinks were well crafted and balanced, and visually appealing as well. I also really appreciate that you can order from a table through Toast, and they will bring it out to you as soon as it is done. I will be back for sure!

We got a smoothie, a fresh juice, lemon curd blueberry crepes, egg, bacon & cheddar crepes, two sandwiches with the paprika house fries. Our order was supposed to be ready by 924am. All that was ready was our crepes. The whipped cream in the to go cup was already melted. My boyfriend sat at the restaurant & waited & watched as the staff got our food ready. He watched them cook our potatoes & make the drinks. He is too polite to complain but definitely should have. We got home and our potatoes weren’t even cooked through as they rushed to get our order ready & our crepes were obviously cold. The bread for my sandwich was burnt. For an order that was supposed to be ready at 924am- he didn’t leave the restaurant until 947am. I would definitely reconsider if you plan to order take out. I’m sure everything would have been wonderful had we chose to dine in. For an order almost costing 70 dollars the staff should have paid better attention to the time & the quality of what was being sent out.

As someone who has been making drinks at Caribou for a year, I can tell you for a fact that our specialty drinks are actually more expensive in some cases than this cafe. As for the food, they make it fresh and are the same price wise as other cafes. I feel allot of small coffee shops receive negative feedback because they aren’t as fast as Starbucks or Caribou, but people need to understand they aren’t the same. Starbucks has machines that automatically dispense the correct size shot and that steam the milk for them. The reason they do this is for consistency and to make training easier. They are trained to get the drink out to you fast, even if presentation is lacking. Cafes like Astoria do all this themselves and on top of that make your drink beautiful. Most coffee chains are switching over to machines like this and it makes me sad. I hope one day I will be able to work at a cafe that cares about presentation and is clearly passionate about what they are doing.

The majority of the patrons of the Dunn Brothers on Seventh are from downtown or elsewhere and most of the patrons of the Caribou on the other end of West Seventh are from Highland (and they're both franchise coffee shops). So , unless I'm mistaken, Fresh Grounds and Café Astoria are the only two local, West Seventh coffee shops (at this point). Thanks for doing business on the West End, Café Astoria 👏.
